Road Trip to Massanutten Virginia

Route 33 ....driving toward the mountains. So different from the coastal plain!
All of a sudden their was MAJOR fog!

There had been an icing earlier in the day...the trees looked sugar coated.

The ice remained at the top of the mountain, but tiny buds underneath say spring is eventually coming...

These deer had no reaction to cars or humans...they just walked along looking for their snack.

Right outside our condo...

Decidedly Un-gardeny....But Cool Trip!

She is sooo beautiful! I can only imagine what my great grandmother must have thought as the "America" pulled into the harbor, and this was the thing that greeted her.

Horsing Around

Before that sunset, it was an incredibly beautiful day in Northeastern North Carolina. The sky was intensely blue and no jacket required for a November afternoon. Nothing much interesting in the garden, so I turned my eye to horses.... Baby Blue...
A rescued Corolla wild pony....originally found suffering from head trauma, there was a time when all involved thought it would have to be put down....but now almost 4 months later, happy and healthy, enjoying a munch!
This draft horse is HUGE!!! Frolicking around like a pony...

Girl and horse...

Some photo's taken by my spectacular step-daughter Olivia, who has fallen in with a family of photographers.

Res Ipsa Loquitor

Latin for....the thing speaks for itself... Magical light at sunset over the Albemarle Sound....
Everyone on Bay Drive stopped....bike riding, chit chat, driving, running, dog walking to gaze in awe at something so beautiful.

The camera image pales in comparison to how it looked in real time....

Good Night Sunday.

Freeze Watch

BLEAH!!!!!
... Freeze watch in effect from late tonight through Saturday morning... The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a freezewatch... which is in effect from late tonight through Saturday morning. Strong high pressure will build over the mid Atlantic andCarolinas tonight into Saturday. Clear skies and light winds will allow temperatures away from the water to drop to between 30 and 35degrees. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A freeze watch means sub-freezing temperatures are possible. These conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.Could spell the end for my beloved Morning Glories...boooooo
Well, there are always the pansies...

For some reason, this Hydrangea decided to send up one last bloom...

And there is a last hurray for the coneflowers...
