Drippy Friday

Kind of grey and foggy here this morning with lots of rain on the way. I figured I should check to see if anything sprouted while I was away... lots going on in that garden without any help from me! Peas poking through the dirt.
Radishes...

Spinach...

Arugala to go with the radishes and some yummy blue cheese dressing, one of my favorite salads.
Tiny jewel like drops were hanging on everything as I walked around...

The daffofils that were still tightly budded last week have popped and are leaning with the weight of the dew.

I think it's safe to say spring has arrived!
In other news, one of the 3 eagle eggs at the Norfolk Botanical Garden nest hatched yesterday afternoon. Look here to see the live "Eagle Cam" (my secret addiction)

Here you can track the movement of "Azalea," one of the eagles hatched in the 2009 season.
I have become somewhat obsessed with the activities of these eagles!

I Don't Care for Squirrels

In the never ending quest to feed the BIRDS and not the SQUIRRELS, I bought this nifty window feeder. It's working out well don't you think? Some squirrely facts:

The average squirrel eats about a pound of food a week...all STOLEN from my BIRD feeders!

Surprise surprise, the Eastern Grey Squirrel is listed as low concern on the list of endangered species.

In late 2007, the EPA in New Jersey warned residents to eat no more than two squirrels a week, due to possible contamination from a superfund site.
Plotting a high jump....

Better be careful squirrel...earlier in the week one of your friends had an ill-fated jump that landed it into the waiting mouth of a Welsh Terrier...it was Christmas for her and curtains for the squirrel!

VERT ANNOYING!!!!

And bold...

Where is that Welshie now?

The Day After the Spring Snow...

Still cold, but better than yesterday!
I love how the daffodil flower is visible, just waiting for the right time to "pop."

Meanwhile, in more protected quarters the sunflowers have sprouted.

Now to keep them alive until after the first frost.

A Day in the Refuge

Started in September 2009, the restoration of the Bodie Light is well under way! Read more here: http://www.nps.gov/caha/parknews/bodie-island-lighthouse-restoration-progress-report.htm
Further into the Hatteras Seashore is another favorite place, the Pea Island Refuge...I love to see what birds are hanging out. Today a whole flock of red winged blackbirds were perched on the tops of various plants...a long wait if they were looking for bugs...too cold and windy.

The Ibis were flying to and fro without any visible purpose...

The snow geese in a lather over something!
