Chronicaling the lunacy of taming three acres in Tidewater Virginia, one square foot at a time!

You Know It's Spring....

...when you sit on the deck having your morning coffee while you watch great puffs of pine pollen blowing from the trees next door. (Look slightly below center)  Time for some Claritin!!

A Walk on St. Patty's Day

It started off a sunny morning...the ocean was clear tealy blue today with fog hanging just off shore.

With not a drop of Irish in me, I still was "lucky" to see Santa riding his bike on the Bypass near milepost 6! Where else would Santa be at this time of the year, but bumming around the Outer Banks!

A nice walk around the neighborhood revealed....some delicate tulips reaching for the sunshine.

The day was odd...creepy fog alternating with bright sunshine. The dew point and the temperature were neck and neck all day.

These geezers were oblivious to us...I was really trying to capture a pic of the Kingfisher that was on a post in the water, but no luck there.

 Fog, fog, fog.....
A little of this, a little of that blooming...
Irises surprised me!!! They are surely early to be amongst the daffs and jonqs.

 Nest everywhere.....
A nice day and a nice walk.

...the Ides of March Bloom Day!

Not the most exotic of blooms...even scorned by some. But there is no denying that for a few brief moments in springtime, the lowly Bradford Pear puts on a show of dainty white flowers that get the bees all jazzed up until they fall like snow on the driveway.

Can't resist the pansies and violas...

A bit of Homestead Purple Verbena poking out....

And more violas...

Check out what's blooming in other blogger's gardens...head over to May Dreams Gardens where Carol is hosting another Garden Blogger's Bloom Day, held on the 15th of each month.

It Just Couldn't Be a Nicer Day!

It's 79 degrees with 33% humidity and a 2 mph breeze from the north. It is truly a near perfect day!
Things are starting to sprout...like the arugula...

The Red Sails lettuce and the parsley are enjoying the dappled sunshine.

I am a moss lover....

These have popped up all over....

The Welshie is in her pool, a sure sign of a warm spring day! (She is gonna smell like heck later!)

Inspired to Clean the Beds

Most likely won't be able to walk upright tomorrow after plunging in for 4 hours to do major garden bed clean out! Got out the giant tub of seeds and found some good things to plant...

Camera on B&W thanks to sophomore photography project...

A little of this and a little of that...

The Clematis has leaves! Must go back and compare to prior years...

Spinach is looking respectable...

Something (someone) has built a very substantial nest in one of our pines...

Will keep an eye on that. Not quite eagle sized, maybe hawk?

Red Plum is flowering and there were quite a few bees visiting today.

Over winter, the woodpeckers have been going to town on this stump!

Off to take some Motrin!

March 6 more like...

...the end of April? The pink Spirea has leaves...

...and the Vinca Minor has flowers!

I suppose it's true to everything there is a season. A time to not blog and a time to blog once again.
